Monash University admission at a glance
International applicants who are not in the final school year in Australia or an IB in Australia or New Zealand apply directly to Monash, and can apply anytime throughout the year. Commerce needs IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band and the 2027-intake IB entry score is 31.
This page covers four Bachelor routes that international applicants most often ask about: Commerce, Computer Science, Engineering (Honours) and the Direct Entry Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine. Every figure below comes from Monash pages checked in October 2026.
Monash says that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee entry, as there may be more applicants than places available. Treat the scores in this guide as gates, not as the level of students who were admitted.
How to apply to Monash from abroad
Two routes exist: direct application for most international applicants and VTAC for students currently in an Australian Year 12 (in Australia or overseas), an IB in Australia or New Zealand, or NCEA in New Zealand.
Direct applicants: international students can apply for a place anytime throughout the year. Official page: Apply for an undergraduate course - international students.
VTAC applicants: the course code should end with the number 3, which identifies an international student. IB students must make sure they or their school submitted the results release form to the IBO so VTAC can see the results.
Check the course page too: some courses have extra requirements such as a folio, personal statement, interview, etc.
Minimum entry requirements for international qualifications
Overseas secondary applicants need satisfactory completion of final year secondary school, or equivalent, including English.
For the IB, Monash asks for satisfactory completion of the IB, including English and a score equivalent to an ATAR of 70 or above. That is the general floor; the courses below set higher scores.
Overseas university studies are assessed on a case-by-case basis. If results are not in English, certified translated copies are required. Source: Monash minimum entry requirements.
Every undergraduate course also requires a minimum of an Australian Year 12 qualification (or equivalent) and the required academic entry score.
Entry scores for the 2027 intake
For the 2027 intake Commerce lists ATAR 87.5, Computer Science ATAR 80 and Engineering (Honours) ATAR 85, with international equivalents in the table.
| Course | ATAR-equivalent | IB Diploma | GCE A Level | Vietnam diploma |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Commerce | 87.5 | 31 | 11 | 8.49 |
| Computer Science | 80 | 28 | 9 | 8.28 |
| Engineering (Honours) | 85 | 30 | 10 | - |
The Engineering row comes from the course guide table, which prints a second column for the accelerated Master's pathway (85 and 90 ATAR-equivalent). Course pages list further qualifications such as SAT, ACT, Gaokao, Hong Kong DSE and Indian boards; open the course page for yours: Commerce, Computer Science, 2027 course guide.
For A Levels, the course pages explain that the total is calculated from three A Level subjects, or from combinations with AS Levels, and other subject combinations cannot be used. These are minimum scores, not the typical level of admitted students.
Prerequisite subjects and assumed knowledge
Commerce and Engineering both carry a prerequisite of English level 1, and Engineering also lists assumed knowledge of Maths level 3 and Chemistry, Physics or Biology.
The guide defines English and Maths levels per qualification (IB, A Levels, AP, US High School Diploma) in its prerequisite table; use the 2027 international course guide to find the exact subject and grade for your certificate.
English language requirements
Commerce and Computer Science sit at English Level A: IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band; equivalent approved tests are accepted.
Engineering uses English test Level A as well. Computer Science: IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band.
Test results must be recent: the measure of English must be completed within three years prior to the Monash course commencement date. If you have several results, the highest valid measure will be accepted. Source: 2027 international course guide.
Medicine (Direct Entry): ISAT and interview
The Direct Entry Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine is only open to applicants who completed Year 12 (or VCE equivalent) no more than two years before course commencement, with no other tertiary study in that time.
All international applicants must complete the International Student Admissions Test (ISAT), with a minimum overall total of 170 and at least 165 in both sections. The page lists ISAT test windows for 2026 only, so check the page for 2027 dates.
Selection includes a Multi Mini Interview (MMI); only applicants who attend an interview remain in the final ranked list, and the MMI can be attended only once.
English for medicine is higher than for Commerce: IELTS overall 7.0 with no band below 6.5, or PTE Academic 65 with no band below 58, or TOEFL iBT 94 with minimum section scores. Source: Medicine direct entry - international entry requirements.
Intakes and application timing
There is no fixed closing date for direct applications: international students can apply anytime throughout the year. Teaching starts in early March (Semester one) and in mid-July (Semester two).
For an autumn 2027 start from the northern hemisphere, Semester two is the nearest regular start. Commerce also lists a November intake (Actuarial Studies excluded); Computer Science lists February and July.
VTAC applicants: most Year 12 students submit by late September, with late and very late periods at higher fees. The page names no year, and for the 2027 round that date has passed.
International tuition fees
Quoted international fees are A$55,900 for Commerce, A$55,500 for Computer Science and A$59,600 for Engineering (Honours) (2026 quoted fees, the latest published).
The guide states that fees are 2026 quoted fees in Australian dollars and are subject to change. Fees for 2027 were not published on the pages checked, and a medicine fee is not listed there.
