University of Naples Federico II admission at a glance
The University of Naples Federico II (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Federico II) has published no call for entry in autumn 2027 (Academic Year 2027/2028) yet, so the figures below are the latest published, for 2026/2027, or come from its pages as of October 2026. According to Federico II's international course catalogue as of October 2026, four three-year bachelor's degrees are taught in English or in Italian and English and two single-cycle degrees in English; on its international admission page as of October 2026, a non-EU student pays 140 euros a year of regional fee plus a 16 euro stamp, and a European student adds 200 euros of tuition fees.
Federico II publishes its admission calls (bandi) programme by programme and year by year, and the calls, notices and ranking lists on its numero programmato page are those for the triennial courses of 2026/2027. Every date in this report is labelled with the cycle it belongs to: 2026/2027 is the latest published, and 2027/2028 is not yet published.
Degrees taught in English
Hospitality Management (taught in Italian and English), Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Biology for One-Health are the bachelor's degrees in the catalogue, and Medicine and Surgery and Veterinary Medicine are the single-cycle degrees. Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is marked in fase di accreditamento (in accreditation) and so is Veterinary Medicine on its 2026/2027 course page, so treat both as pending approval. The programmes chapter gives each degree in turn.
Channel, test and cost
Which route you take depends on your citizenship and where you live. According to Federico II's page as of October 2026, a non-EU citizen living abroad must pre-enrol on Universitaly, a step that precedes the study visa and the university enrolment, while pre-enrolment alone does not grant admission. The test differs by programme: a CISIA test for the engineering and biology bachelor's degrees, an oral exam for Hospitality Management and a national test for Medicine and Surgery and Veterinary Medicine in English.
First-year students pay a contribution that depends on income: the 2026/2027 enrolment guide, the latest published, makes them exempt up to an ISEEU of 30.000 euros. For students with foreign citizenship the guide says the amounts are distinguished only by citizenship, EU or non-EU, and non-EU citizens are fully exempt from the enrolment contribution and pay only the regional tax and the stamp duty. The fees chapter gives the bands.

Federico II history, size and rankings
Federico II says Emperor Frederick II founded it with the generalis lictera of 5 June 1224, and, according to its Italian page as of October 2026, it counts 177 degree programmes, 26 departments and more than 80.000 enrolled students. Italian pages write thousands with a point, so 80.000 means eighty thousand. For rankings, the University highlights the ShanghaiRanking subject table GRAS 2026, in which it is ranked in 35 of the 57 subjects.
According to the Italian history page as of October 2026, the name keeps the memory of the Swabian emperor who founded the University on 5 June 1224. The English history page, also as of October 2026, calls it one of the oldest universities to be founded by a head of State and adds that during the emperor's reign the University closed down and had to be re-founded twice, in 1234 and in 1239.
On its own pages as of October 2026, Federico II describes itself as the oldest public university in the world (Italian page) and as the oldest State University in Europe (English page). Those are the University's descriptions of itself.

Rankings Federico II cites
The ranking Federico II highlights on its news page is ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2026, a subject table and not an overall league table. The University reports that it is classified in 35 of the 57 subjects and that eight subjects sit within the first 100 world positions or bands. In Dentistry and Oral Sciences it reports a move from the 101 to 150 band to the 76 to 100 band, the first place among Italian universities.
| Subject | Position or band |
|---|---|
| Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences | 6th |
| Aerospace Engineering | 43rd |
| Marine and Ocean Engineering | band 51 to 75 |
| Agricultural Sciences | band 51 to 75 |
| Veterinary Sciences | band 51 to 75 |
| Physics | band 76 to 100 |
| Civil Engineering | band 76 to 100 |
| Dentistry and Oral Sciences | band 76 to 100 |
These are subject positions measured in 2026 and reported by the University. They say nothing about how selective a given programme is, and the University gives no overall world ranking position in these pages. Official page: Federico II, chi siamo.
Open access, numero programmato and places at Federico II
In the 2026/2027 calls, the latest published, Federico II reserves 30 of the 75 places in Biology for One-Health, 5 of the 75 places in Hospitality Management, 45 of the 80 places in Medicine and Surgery in English and 2 places in Veterinary Medicine in English for non-EU citizens resident abroad; the calls for 2027/2028 are not yet published. Degrees without a numero programmato are open access, and the University checks basic preparation instead of ranking candidates.
| Programme | Places as the call states them | Reserved for non-EU citizens resident abroad |
|---|---|---|
| Biology for One-Health (local) | 75 places | 30 |
| Hospitality Management (local) | 70 places for EU citizens and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy, 75 places in total | 5 |
| Medicine and Surgery in English (national) | 80 places, of which 35 for EU citizens and non-EU citizens resident in Italy | 45 |
| Veterinary Medicine in English (national) | 18 places for EU citizens and non-EU citizens resident in Italy | 2 |
Open access and the check of basic preparation
For degrees with open access (accesso libero), Federico II's notice as of October 2026 asks for a secondary-school diploma and adequate basic preparation. The check is set by each course: an online test during the enrolment procedure, or checks in the classroom. If the result is negative, the student must attend recovery courses for the debito formativo, the additional learning obligation that the engineering pages call OFA. For some of these degrees the CISIA TOLC may be optional.
Restricted access and numero programmato
First-cycle and single-cycle degrees may be reserved access or not, at local or national level. In a reserved programme you register for the test and admission depends on the score and on your position in the ranking. The number of places for each programme is set in its Bando di Concorso, and for Medicine and Surgery in English, a national programme, the 2026/2027 course page says the selection follows national legislation on admission to medical courses.
For Biology for One-Health, the numero programmato page for 2026/2027 says that non-EU non-resident candidates are selected directly by the course coordination. The same page states for the Biology-area calls that selection is made only by order of application and by the school-diploma grade.
Applications, admits and admit rate
Federico II fixes places per call and ranks candidates by score; Federico II gives no count of applications or admits and no admit rate. Competition shows only in the ranking list of each call.
Ranking lists and later rounds
Calls, notices and ranking lists are published on the numero programmato page, and the page shows those for the triennial courses of 2026/2027. Hospitality Management shows how later rounds work: the EU and resident ranking reached scorrimento n. 4, published on 15/10/2026, and the final ranking for non-EU non-resident candidates, with 5 places, set the enrolment deadline at 3 September 2026. That deadline has passed; it belongs to the 2026/2027 cycle.
Official page: Federico II corsi a numero programmato.
Federico II admission tests: TOLC, own tests, IMAT and the semestre filtro
Federico II uses a different test for each English-taught degree: according to its course pages as of October 2026, Civil and Environmental Engineering asks for the English TOLC-I of the CISIA consortium and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology for a CEnT-S score of at least 9 out of 45, Hospitality Management runs an oral exam worth 50 of 100 points, and Medicine and Surgery and Veterinary Medicine in English use a national test. Calls for 2027/2028 are not yet published, and no SAT or ACT score is named for any programme.
| Programme | Test | Run by |
|---|---|---|
| Civil and Environmental Engineering | Compulsory selective English TOLC-I; remote and repeatable | CISIA |
| Electrical Engineering and Information Technology | CEnT-S, minimum score 9 out of 45 (Mathematics, Reasoning on texts and data, Chemistry and Physics) | CISIA |
| Biology for One-Health | 2026/2027 call: compulsory self-assessment test TOLC-I_EN in TOLC@CASA mode | CISIA |
| Hospitality Management | Oral exam of 50 points plus 50 points for the diploma grade | Selection committee |
| Medicine and Surgery, Veterinary Medicine (English) | National admission test, 60 questions (2026/2027 call) | Ministry, set nationally |
TOLC-I and CEnT-S for the engineering and biology bachelor's degrees
The course page for Civil and Environmental Engineering says personal preparation is checked with a compulsory selective test, the English TOLC-I, entrusted to the CISIA consortium. You take it remotely after registering on the CISIA website, and you can repeat it. To enrol you must reach 20% of the maximum score, and a candidate who does not reach more than 50% of the Mathematics marks, which is 10, together with at least 15 of the 50 points overall, is assigned an additional formative obligation (OFA) of at least 9 credits.
For Electrical Engineering and Information Technology the course page lists, among the main prerequisites, a CEnT-S with a minimum score of 9 out of 45 in Mathematics, Reasoning on texts and data, Chemistry and Physics. The header of the same page lists TOLC - I - OFA as the admission type and marks the degree as in accreditation, so confirm with the course which test applies to your entry year.
Biology for One-Health calls the test two things. The 2026/2027 call requires a compulsory self-assessment test, the TOLC-I_EN, delivered by CISIA in TOLC@CASA mode, and the numero programmato page names the compulsory self-assessment test CENT in the same mode, together with an English certificate of at least B2. Check the call published for your year for the exact test name.
Hospitality Management: the oral exam
According to its course page as of October 2026, Hospitality Management selects with an oral exam. The selection committee has 100 points: 50 for the oral exam and 50 for the grade in the High School Diploma examination. The interview covers general cultural topics, with particular reference to the tourism sector, and assesses motivation for the field of study. In the 2026/2027 call the oral exam was set for 14, 15 and 16 July 2026.
Own tests and other CISIA tests for Italian-taught degrees
Some Italian-taught programmes use tests that the University or CISIA runs. In 2026/2027, Design per la Comunità held its own online tests on 28 July 2026, with an additional test on 4 September 2026 if needed; Scienze dell'Architettura held in-person tests with CISIA, the first on 24/07/2026; and the professional degree in Meccatronica selected only through the TOLC-I, with registration through CISIA until 10 September 2026. Those dates have passed; they show how the cycle runs, and they are not 2027/2028 dates. CISIA's site is cisiaonline.it.
The national test for Medicine and Veterinary Medicine in English
Medicine and Surgery and Veterinary Medicine in English are national programmes. The Ministry's 2026/2027 calendar first set the test for 30 September 2026, and a Ministry notice later moved it, stating that the test would be held on 29 September 2026. The Medicine chapter gives the test format, the registration window and the minimum scores.
The semestre filtro for Italian-taught Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine
For 2026/2027, the latest published, Federico II activated the semestre filtro for Medicina e Chirurgia and Medicina e Chirurgia (Tecnologica) in Napoli and in Benevento, and for Medicina Veterinaria and Odontoiatria e Protesi Dentaria. The enrolment ran in two steps: first on Universitaly, from 13 July 2026 to 18.00 on 3 August 2026, choosing also a related course, then on the University's platform by 23.59 on 6 August 2026. Both deadlines have passed. The flat contribution was 250 euros, with the ISEE bands in the fees chapter.
SAT and ACT
None of the programme rules above names the SAT or the ACT. The tests are CISIA tests, an oral exam, the University's own online tests and the national test. Official pages: Civil and Environmental Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
Medicine and Surgery in English and Veterinary Medicine in English at Federico II
Medicine and Surgery in English at Federico II is a six-year, 360-credit single-cycle degree admitted through a national test: the 2026/2027 call, the latest published, offered 80 places, set online registration on Universitaly from 26 August 2026 to 9 September 2026 and called candidates at 11.30 on 29 September 2026. Veterinary Medicine in English follows the same schedule with 18 plus 2 places. The 2027/2028 calls are not yet published.

| Minimum score | 20 points for EU citizens and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy; above zero for non-EU residents abroad | 20 points for EU citizens and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy; above zero for non-EU residents abroad |
| Seat | School of Medicine and Federico II Hospital, Via Sergio Pansini 5 | Via Federico Delpino 1 and Complesso Frullone |
How the test works
The 2026/2027 call names the test the prova di ammissione, set from the programmes in annex A of Ministerial Decree n. 1005/2026, with identical content in every test location. It consists of 60 multiple-choice questions with five options: 4 on reading skills and knowledge and 5 on logical reasoning and problems, and 23 on biology, 15 on chemistry and 13 on physics and mathematics.
In the 2026/2027 call you have 100 minutes, and the test is scored out of a maximum of 90 points: 1,5 points for each correct answer, minus 0,40 for each wrong answer and 0 for a blank. The exam takes place on the same day in all Italian state universities, on a day other than the traditional Italian course.
Who can apply and the minimum score
The 2026/2027 call lets EU citizens wherever resident and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy apply with a foreign qualification of at least 12 years of schooling, recognised as equivalent to the Italian diploma. Non-EU citizens resident abroad also need a qualification with at least 12 years of schooling.
In the 2026/2027 call, EU citizens and non-EU citizens legally resident in Italy are eligible only with a minimum score of 20 points, and candidates below it are not placed in the ranking. For non-EU citizens resident abroad the threshold does not apply: they are eligible with a score above zero.
Registration, ranking and places
You register on Universitaly, and the 2026/2027 call then requires you to pay the contribution following the Universitaly instructions; the call text states no amount. Admission follows the ranking from the entrance exams, under national legislation on admission to medical courses.
The number of places has changed. The course page says that from academic year 2025-26, 70 students are admitted each year, 25 EU and non-EU resident in Italy and 45 non-EU, and the 2026/2027 call re-sets the places at 80, of which 35 for EU and resident candidates and 45 for non-EU citizens resident abroad. Plan with the figure in the call for your year, which for 2027/2028 is not yet published.
According to Federico II's FAQ page as of October 2026, an English certificate is advisable both for the visa and for a higher score if candidates tie in the ranking.
Veterinary Medicine in English
On its 2026/2027 course page, Veterinary Medicine is taught entirely in English, lasts 5 years and 300 ECTS and carries the label in fase di accreditamento, so treat it as pending approval. In the first two years students are based at the facilities of the Department of Veterinary Medicine. The course page asks for a minimum English level of B2 of the CEFR and says admission is restricted to 20 students. Registration is through the Universitaly portal.
The test date moved. The Ministry's 2026/2027 calendar gave 30 September 2026 for the English-taught Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary tests; the call and a later notice give 29 September 2026. Official pages: Medicine and Surgery (ENG), Veterinary Medicine and Universitaly.
Applying to Federico II step by step
Applying to Federico II means first pre-enrolling on Universitaly if you are a non-EU citizen abroad or sending your documents to the course Coordinator if you are an EU applicant, then passing the selection, then enrolling. Enrolment on the Segrepass platform runs from 16 July to 2 November according to Federico II's page as of October 2026, except for numero programmato courses, whose date is in the call. The dates for 2027/2028 are not yet published; the calendar below is the latest published, for 2026/2027.
According to Federico II's page as of October 2026, the enrolment date of numero programmato courses is indicated in the call, not in the general window.
EU applicants with a foreign qualification
According to the admission regulation page as of October 2026, if you hold a foreign qualification and are an EU applicant, you send your academic documents to the Coordinator of the course you want, to find out whether you meet the enrolment requirements. The documents are translations, legalisations, the Diploma Supplement, examination certificates, certificates from the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) and any declarations of value. EU candidates and Italians residing in Italy or the EU with a corresponding foreign qualification have unrestricted access to university courses.
On the same page, after you pass the selection described in the call, or complete the assessment of basic knowledge, you contact the Secretary's office of your course to enrol. Non-EU applicants abroad have an earlier step; the next chapter covers it.
Restricted-access programmes: the calls
For a reserved-access programme you register for the admission test, as the call on the course website explains. The numero programmato page lists the calls, notices and rankings, and shows those for the triennial courses of 2026/2027. The latest calls set these dates, all now past: the Hospitality Management oral exam on 14, 15 and 16 July 2026, the Medicine and Surgery in English registration closing on 9 September 2026, and the Meccatronica TOLC-I registration closing on 10 September 2026.
Enrolment on Segrepass and at the counters
According to the page as of October 2026, online enrolment goes through Segrepass from 16 July to 2 November for the triennial, magistrale and single-cycle courses, excluding numero programmato courses. Students with foreign citizenship are treated differently: they enrol at the counters of the Segreterie Studenti and cannot use the online procedure. Late enrolments pay a surcharge of 50 euros until 15 January 2027 and 110 euros from 16 January 2027 in the 2026/2027 cycle, and payment dates may change.
Documents at enrolment
- According to the admission regulation page as of October 2026, international students need: copy of the passport, application form, 1 passport photo, tax code, the residence permit (proof of having applied for it) and a declaration of value from the Italian Embassy in the country where the degree was obtained, or an ENIC-NARIC certificate of validity.
- Italian page, as of October 2026: an ISEE for the right to university study, which you request from a CAF and takes about 15 days, a valid identity document and the tax code.
When courses start
According to Federico II's admission regulation page as of October 2026, courses can start as early as September or October and generally run until the end of May or the middle of June. Teaching is divided into two semesters, from September to February and from February to July. Official pages: Federico II immatricolazioni e iscrizioni and international admission regulation.
Non-EU applicants abroad: Universitaly pre-enrolment and the study visa
According to Federico II's page as of October 2026, if you are a non-EU citizen living abroad, you pre-enrol exclusively through the Universitaly portal, a compulsory step that precedes the study visa and the university enrolment, and pre-enrolment alone does not grant admission. For 2026/2027, the latest published, the pre-enrolment deadline to Federico II was 15 June 2026, and the 2027/2028 deadline is not yet published. Federico II does not issue admission letters for obtaining a visa.
| Group | What Federico II says |
|---|---|
| Italian and EU candidates | Residing in Italy or an EU country, with a foreign qualification corresponding to the Italian one, they have unrestricted access |
| Non-EU candidates residing in Italy or the EU | Regularly residing in Italy or in an EU country with a corresponding qualification, they also have unrestricted access, and do not need to pre-register on Universitaly |
| Non-EU students with residency abroad | Information for non-EU students with residency abroad who wish to enrol: pre-enrolment on Universitaly, then the visa, then enrolment |
Pre-enrolment on Universitaly
According to the page as of October 2026, the pre-enrolment application is made exclusively through the Universitaly portal. For 2026/2027 the deadline was 15 June 2026, after which pre-enrolment was allowed only to programmes with restricted access. Do not treat that date as a 2027/2028 deadline.
According to the FAQ as of October 2026, an undergraduate applicant uploads the mark sheets or transcripts of the final year, the high school diploma if available, the declaration of value or CIMEA statement of comparability, and language certificates if required. The Declaration of Value is processed at the embassy when you apply for the visa, and the University asks for it to confirm your matriculation, so you do not upload it at pre-enrolment (FAQ updated in 2022).
According to the FAQ as of October 2026, when the University validates a pre-enrolment, it declares which checks have been done, such as the assessment of the foreign qualifications and their truthfulness. After acceptance, the FAQ says you receive an email, the embassy is informed, and you download a PDF of acceptance from Universitaly.
The embassy and the study visa
According to the admission regulation page as of October 2026, you take to the Italian Embassy the summary of the pre-enrolment application validated by Federico II and any language competence certificates, together with the documents required for the visa, including a health insurance policy where applicable, and the documents for a foreign qualification. Pre-enrolled students validated on Universitaly receive a type D visa for study, Immatricolazione Università. Students confirmed with reservations, for example because the diploma has not arrived or an exam is pending, also get a type D study visa.
The calendar on the same page lists 30 November 2026 as the deadline for submitting the visa application at embassies and consulates. That is a 2026 date for the cycle now running; the date for autumn 2027 is not yet published.
Means of subsistence
For a study visa, the admission regulation page as of October 2026 requires economic means of subsistence of € 10.179,85 per year, proven by personal financial guarantees or those of parents or of citizens legally residing in Italy, or provided by Italian institutions. It also requires the sum needed for repatriation, which can be shown with a return ticket, suitable accommodation in Italy and adequate insurance cover for medical treatment and hospitalisation.
The student-life page as of October 2026 gives a different figure for the same purpose: €467.65 per month, equal to €6,079.45 per year. The two Federico II pages disagree, so ask the Italian Embassy which amount applies to your visa. Italian pages write thousands with a point, so € 10.179,85 is ten thousand one hundred seventy-nine euros and eighty-five cents. Official page: Universitaly.
Foreign school diplomas: documents, Dichiarazione di valore and CIMEA
Federico II evaluates a foreign school diploma with a list of documents: according to its admission regulation page as of October 2026, translations, legalisations, the Diploma Supplement, certificates of examinations, certificates from the Italian ENIC-NARIC centre (CIMEA) and any declarations of value, and the course Coordinator checks whether an EU applicant meets the enrolment requirements. The pages state a school record of at least 12 years for the Medicine call of 2026/2027, the latest published, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and Civil and Environmental Engineering; they set no minimum grade for any national diploma.
| Programme | What the page says | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Medicine and Surgery in English | A foreign qualification with at least 12 years of schooling, recognised as equivalent to the Italian diploma; the same for non-EU citizens resident abroad | 2026/2027 call |
| Biology for One-Health | A school-leaving certificate after at least 12 years of instruction among the pre-acceptance documents | 2026/2027 call |
| Electrical Engineering and Information Technology | A high school diploma requiring at least 12 years of pre-university education | Course page as of October 2026 |
| Civil and Environmental Engineering | A Dichiarazione di Valore stating at least 12 years of pre-university education when the diploma is non-Italian | Course page as of October 2026 |
Dichiarazione di valore and CIMEA
At enrolment you present a declaration of value issued by the Italian Embassy in the country where the degree was obtained, or a certificate of validity issued by ENIC-NARIC centres. According to the FAQ updated in 2022, a CIMEA certification is valid as an alternative to the declaration of value. The declaration of value is processed at the embassy with the visa application, and the University asks for it to confirm your matriculation.
According to the page as of October 2026, the same list of documents applies to non-European students already residing in Italy without a visa requirement: translations, legalisations, Diploma Supplement, exam certificates, CIMEA certificates and declarations of value.
Translations and legalisation
The 2022 FAQ says that legalisations and translations of the original documents are not required for pre-enrolment as long as all the documents are in English. Confirm that rule with the International Welcome Desk before you rely on it, because the FAQ is dated.
Minimum grades for IB, A-levels, US diploma, Abitur, baccalauréat and matura
Federico II's pages as of October 2026 publish no minimum grade for the IB Diploma, A-levels, a US high school diploma, the Abitur, the French baccalauréat or the Polish matura. Where the school record counts, it counts in the ranking of one programme: Hospitality Management gives 50 of its 100 ranking points to the High School Diploma grade. Italian degrees require an Italian five-year diploma, or a four-year diploma with an integrative year where required, and a valid foreign qualification also gives access.
Who checks the qualification
The course Coordinator checks EU applicants, as above. According to the 2026/2027 enrolment guide, students with foreign citizenship enrol at the counters of the Segreterie Studenti. For non-EU applicants abroad, the University validates the pre-enrolment, and the embassy completes the declaration of value. Official pages: Federico II FAQ and CIMEA.
English and Italian language requirements at Federico II
Federico II asks for English at B2 on most English-taught course pages, B1 for Hospitality Management, and no B2 Italian for degrees taught in English, while any three-year, magistral or single-cycle degree taught in Italian requires B2 Italian. The English levels come from course pages as of October 2026 and from 2026/2027 calls, the latest published; the calls for 2027/2028 are not yet published.
| Programme | English requirement | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Civil and Environmental Engineering | B2 or higher (CEFR), for both non-EU and EU candidates | Course page |
| Electrical Engineering and Information Technology | Certified English level B2 | Course page |
| Biology for One-Health | An English certification of at least B2 to enrol | 2026/2027 call |
| Veterinary Medicine | A minimum level of B2 of the CEFR, typically achieved at the end of secondary education or through an equivalent qualification | 2026/2027 course page |
| Hospitality Management | At least B1 of the CEFR | Course page |
| Medicine and Surgery (ENG) | A certificate is advisable for the visa and for a higher score in case of a tie | FAQ |
Which English certificates count
The pages name no minimum score per certificate. The admission regulation page says that an international certificate attesting to your English, such as IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge, is useful for the issue of the visa. The University Language Centre (CLA) is an exam centre for Cambridge English, IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC and PTE Academic, according to its page, the latest published (2026/2027).
Italian for Italian-taught degrees
According to the admission regulation page as of October 2026, for a degree taught in Italian you prove B2 by uploading to Universitaly with your pre-enrolment a certification no lower than B2 issued within the CLIQ quality system. The certifying bodies are the Universities for Foreigners of Perugia and Siena, Roma Tre University and the Società Dante Alighieri, as well as the University for Foreigners Dante Alighieri of Reggio Calabria.
On the same page, without a B2 certification you demonstrate your Italian through an Italian language proficiency test. The coordinator of the chosen course e-mails the procedures and timing, and the result is certified in the pre-enrolment application.
Who is exempt from the Italian test
Federico II states that those who satisfy at least one of the requirements listed on p. 12 are exempt from the Italian language knowledge test. The list sits in the pre-enrolment procedures that the page refers to, so ask the course coordinator whether your certificate or schooling qualifies.
Italian for English-taught degrees
According to the page as of October 2026, if you choose a three-year, five-year or single-cycle degree in English, B2 Italian is not required, and the FAQ repeats that a course of study in English does not require B2 Italian. The University Language Centre page for 2026/2027 lists Italian language courses at levels A1 and A2 and courses for international students. Official pages: admission regulation and Centro Linguistico di Ateneo.
What to study: English-taught bachelor's and single-cycle degrees at Federico II
According to Federico II's international course catalogue as of October 2026, you can choose four three-year bachelor's degrees (L) taught in English or in Italian and English, and two single-cycle master's programmes (LMCU) taught in English: Hospitality Management, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Biology for One-Health, Medicine and Surgery and Veterinary Medicine. Federico II counts 177 degree programmes, laurea and laurea magistrale, in all.
The catalogue groups the programmes under 3-year Bachelor's degrees (L), 2-year Master's degrees (LM), double degrees and single cycle Master programmes (LMCU). A school-leaver enters an L or an LMCU. Two of the six are marked in accreditation, so confirm they will run for your entry year.

Admission combines the diploma grade and an oral exam, as the tests chapter explains.
Civil and Environmental Engineering has a legal duration of 3 years and 180 CFU, with all lectures held on the Via Claudio campus. The Department of Ingegneria Civile, Edile e Ambientale runs it. Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is run by the Department of Ingegneria Elettrica e delle Tecnologie dell'Informazione (DIETI) and, according to its course page, is still in accreditation.
Biology for One-Health belongs to the Department of Biology, at the University Complex of Monte Sant'Angelo. In the 2026/2027 call it was a local numero programmato of 75 places.
Single-cycle degrees (LMCU)
Medicine and Surgery in English is a single-cycle degree that lasts six years and includes 360 credits (course page updated 2025/2026), run by the Department of Scienze Mediche Traslazionali. On its 2026/2027 course page, Veterinary Medicine lasts 5 years and 300 ECTS and is taught entirely in English, and the Department of Medicina Veterinaria e Produzioni Animali runs it. The Medicine chapter covers the admission test for both.
Italian-taught degrees
A programme taught in Italian asks for B2 Italian, according to the admission regulation page as of October 2026. Federico II also lists Italian-taught degrees with their own routes, such as Scienze dell'Architettura, Design per la Comunità and the professional degree in Meccatronica, as the tests chapter shows. Choose the programme first, because the test, the places and the call are set programme by programme.

According to its placement pages as of October 2026, Federico II runs a placement service built around its Job Fair, which it describes as the University career day with 100 top employers and over 10.000 job interviews, and the service lists company openings, recruiting days and internships. The pages give event and platform figures and no graduate employment rate, so no outcome percentage is given.

| Recruiting days | Events organised by the University with companies, where students get noticed |

What the University says about outcomes
Federico II states that graduating from Federico II means entering the Italian and international job market. That is the University's own statement, and the placement pages back it with services and events, not with a graduate employment figure. Official pages: Placement and Placement e lavoro.
Cost of studying at Federico II: ISEEU contribution, regional tax and non-EU fees
According to Federico II's international admission page as of October 2026, a non-European student pays a €140/year regional fee and a €16.00 legal stamp, and a European student pays €200/year in tuition fees on top; the enrolment guide for 2026/2027, the latest published, fully exempts non-EU citizens from the enrolment contribution and sets a regional tax of 151 euros for students whose family unit resides abroad. Italian pages write thousands with a point, so 30.000 means thirty thousand.
| Source | European students | Non-European students |
|---|---|---|
| International admission page | €200/year tuition fees + €140/year regional tax + €16.00 legal stamp | €140/year regional fee + €16.00 legal stamp |
| Enrolment guide 2026/2027 | Only a fixed contribution of 200 euros if the contribution due is 200 euros or more; otherwise ordinary enrolment | Fully exempt from the enrolment contribution; they pay only the regional tax and the stamp duty |
The 2026/2027 guide adds that for students with foreign citizenship the amounts are distinguished only by citizenship, EU or non-EU, and that they enrol at the counters of the Segreterie Studenti.
First-year contribution by ISEEU
In the 2026/2027 guide, the enrolment contribution depends on income (ISEEU) and on career, meaning credits earned and year of enrolment. A first-year student pays the reduced contribution by ISEEU: those with an ISEEU up to 30.000 euros are exempt. Above that, the guide sets a fixed share of 1.011,50 euros plus a variable share, up to a maximum of 2.384,00 euros for those who present no ISEEU.
In the same guide, a first-year bachelor's or single-cycle student with a diploma grade of 100 e lode gets a 50% reduction of the contribution. Students who are exempt pay only the regional tax for their band and the 16 euro stamp duty.
Regional tax bands and stamp duty
| Band | Regional tax |
|---|---|
| ISEEU up to 25.500,00 euros, and students from particularly poor countries | 130 euros |
| ISEEU from 25.500,01 to 51.000,00 euros, and students whose family unit resides abroad | 151 euros |
| ISEEU above 51.000,00 euros, or no ISEEU certificate | 173 euros |
The international admission page as of October 2026 gives a single regional figure of €140/year for non-European students, where the 2026/2027 guide lists three bands. Plan for the guide's band that matches your family's situation and confirm the amount with the Segreteria Studenti. The stamp duty is 16 euros in both sources.
Instalments, exemptions and late fees
For students enrolling in 2026/2027 the guide sets three instalments: the first, 60% of the amount plus the regional tax and the stamp, from 16 July or 1 September to 2 November 2026; the second, 20%, by 1 March 2027; and the third, 20%, by 30 April 2027. The guide notes that the deadlines may change. Students entitled to exemptions have until 2 November 2026 to access the procedure and declare that they meet the requirements in the 2026/2027 cycle, and total and partial exemptions are applied automatically from their self-declarations in Segrepass. Late enrolments pay 50 euros until 15 January 2027 and 110 euros from 16 January 2027.
Test, permit and insurance costs
The 2026/2027 call for Medicine and Surgery in English says to pay the test contribution following the Universitaly instructions and states no amount. Official pages: Federico II immatricolazioni e iscrizioni and international admission regulation.

Study in Naples
On the international opportunities page as of October 2026, the 2024-2025 call is for international students enrolling in the first year of one of the international courses offered by the University. Treat the 2024-2025 amounts and dates as the pattern of the scheme and wait for a call for your entry year.
Fee exemptions
Fee exemptions work through the enrolment contribution. In the 2026/2027 guide, first-year students with an ISEEU up to 30.000 euros are exempt, non-EU citizens are fully exempt from the contribution, and a diploma grade of 100 e lode earns a 50% reduction for first-year bachelor's and single-cycle students. Under the 2026/2027 guide, students who receive an ADISURC scholarship, or who were eligible but not funded, have a total indirect exemption.
Regional right-to-study scholarships (ADISURC)
The regional right to study runs through ADISURC. Federico II's opportunities page invites students to find out how to compete for the scholarships called by ADISURC, and its services page says the University guarantees the right to study with exemptions and facilities on the enrolment contributions for families and merit students. The pages give no ADISURC amount, so check the ADISURC call for your year.
