University of Bath admission at a glance for international applicants
International applicants apply to the University of Bath for entry in September 2027 through UCAS, and Bath guarantees equal consideration to applications received by 18:00 (GMT) on 13 January 2027. The typical Computer Science offer is A*A*A at A level or 36 points overall and 7, 7, 6 in the IB Diploma, and Bath says that Fee information is not yet available for that course.
Bath is a campus university in the south-west of England, and its undergraduate admissions run in one channel for everybody: The application process for international students is the same as it is for everyone else. That means a student in Rome, Warsaw, Bucharest or Lyon fills in the same UCAS form as a student in Leeds, with the Bath institution code B16 and the UCAS code of the chosen course.
This page covers what a reader applying from abroad for autumn 2027 needs to know, in the order the decisions come: the route and the dates, the certificate you hold (IB, A levels, AP, or a national diploma), the maths and subject rules, the English proof, interviews, money and the next steps. Entry grades are quoted from four course pages for 2027 entry: Computer Science, Economics, Psychology and Mechanical Engineering. Other courses set their own grades, so always check the page of your own course.
One point before the detail. Bath says that if your country isn’t included on this page, you can still apply and the page lists only some countries. A missing country is not a rejection. The details for each certificate are in chapters 4 to 10.

How to apply to Bath from abroad: UCAS, code B16 and the Application Tracker
All applications to Bath go through UCAS: You can apply online for our undergraduate courses through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service, and international applicants follow The application process for international students is the same as it is for everyone else.
You need the UCAS code of the course and Bath's institution code, which is B16. Before you fill in the form, Bath asks you to read the course page, because All our courses have course-specific entry requirements. For Computer Science the course code is H100.
Who can apply
Bath accepts applications from people working towards or holding a school-leaving or equivalent qualification: You can apply for an undergraduate course if you are working towards or have completed a qualification at either the school-leaving level (A levels, International Baccalaureate, Scottish Highers, Access to Higher Education or similar) or the next level up. The course pages confirm that Home and Overseas students are eligible to apply, at least for Computer Science.
After you submit
Once the application is in, you can follow it in two places. Bath writes that You will also receive an email with a username and password for your Bath Application Tracker, where you upload supporting documents. Missing documents slow the decision, so check the tracker regularly.
Bath also grants itself room to ask for evidence when a qualification is hard to read from abroad: for example, we will invite you to attend an interview if you are studying a qualification that is harder for us to assess on paper. The chapter on interviews and tests explains who is likely to be interviewed.

Bath application deadlines for 2027 entry: 13 January 2027 and the dates around it
The main UCAS deadline for Bath is 13 January 2027 (the cut-off is 18:00 GMT), the date Bath calls the deadline for equal consideration, and each Bath course page for 2027 entry shows the same date as the Overseas application deadline 13 January 2027.
Equal consideration has a precise meaning at Bath: it is the date by which You can submit your application by 18:00 (GMT) on 13 January 2027 to be guaranteed equal consideration, and applications are then reviewed in the same way as all others, regardless of when each was received. After that date a course may be full, so the January date is the one to plan around, not the later ones.
On timing of decisions, the Computer Science page is explicit: While a small number of offers will be made between October and January, most offers will be made in February and March. So a January application normally means waiting until February or March.
Reply dates depend on when your last decision arrives. If you receive your last decision on or before 31 March 2027 , your reply date is 5 May 2027, and If you receive your last decision on or before 12 May 2027 , your reply date is 2 June 2027. Both exclude people using Extra.

Which qualifications Bath accepts from outside the UK
Bath publishes an overview of the main qualifications we accept for a selection of countries, and for every other country the rule is the one in the first chapter: you can still apply, and A levels or the IB Diploma are accepted from anywhere.
For the countries it lists, Bath states a typical offer in the national grade scale and then says that it also considers A levels or IB. For France the page gives Our typical offers vary from 13 to 17 overall for the Baccalauréat Général, for Greece We accept the Apolytirion when it is studied alongside A levels, for Spain offers that vary from 8 to 9.2 overall, and for Türkiye The CGPA range is from 85% through to 75% depending on degree course.
Qualifications not accepted for direct entry
Some national diplomas are not enough on their own. Bath says Unfortunately, we are unable to consider the Secondary School Certificate (Tawjihiyya) for direct entry from the United Arab Emirates, and the same applies to the Thai and Taiwanese school diplomas: Unfortunately, we are unable to consider the Higher Secondary School Certificate and Unfortunately, we are unable to consider the Senior High School Diploma. For Japan, Bath writes that Unfortunately we are unable to accept students onto our degrees on the basis of this qualification alone. You will need to take an additional course before applying to us. This could be A levels, the International Baccalaureate Diploma or a recognised foundation course. Please contact us for further advice and the same wording is used for South Korea.
Applicants in that position are pointed to A levels, the IB Diploma, AP where relevant, or a foundation year. Bath runs its own: delivered through our International Study Centre at our Bath campus, and We consider UK International Foundation Years offered by other UK organisations on a case-by-case basis.
The reverse also holds: We accept these qualifications whether you have studied them in the UK or abroad. An IB Diploma earned in Athens or Jakarta is treated by the IB rules in chapter 5, and A levels by the rules in chapter 6.
Official pages: Bath entry requirements for international students, Computer Science BSc course page.
IB Diploma entry requirements at Bath: points and Higher Level grades
For the IB Diploma Bath asks for 36 points overall and 7, 7, 6 in three Higher Level subjects for Computer Science and for Mechanical Engineering, and 36 points overall and 7, 6, 6 for Economics and for Psychology, with specific subjects in the maths and physics courses.
These are typical offers, and for the competitive courses an official offer is a gate rather than the level of admitted students. Bath also publishes a lower contextual offer for eligible applicants; for Computer Science it is 36 points overall and 6, 6, 6 or 7, 6, 5 in three Higher Level subjects. Contextual offers are automatic when you meet the eligibility criteria.
IB Mathematics choices
For Computer Science, Bath says To be considered for this course you will usually need to study either Mathematics course at Higher Level for stand-alone certificates. At Standard Level the rules are narrower: Bath states that If you are studying Standard Level Mathematics: Analysis & Approaches we may be able to consider you, and that We do not accept Standard Level Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations for this course.
Do not plan on certificates alone. On the Computer Science page Bath writes If you are studying IB subjects as part of the IB Diploma, you will usually need to complete the full diploma programme. It also says that previous achievements matter less for broad programmes, because previous academic achievements may be less relevant if you are studying a broader baccalaureate such as the IB Diploma or French Baccalaureate.
Official pages: Computer Science BSc course page, Economics BSc course page, Psychology BSc course page, Mechanical Engineering MEng course page.
A level entry requirements at Bath for international applicants
A levels are accepted from any country: We accept these qualifications whether you have studied them in the UK or abroad, and the typical offer ranges from AAB for Economics to A*A*A for Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering.
| Course | Typical A level offer |
|---|---|
| Computer Science | A*A*A in three A levels including A in Mathematics |
| Economics | AAB in three A levels including A in Mathematics |
| Psychology | A*AA in three A levels |
| Mechanical Engineering | A*A*A in three A levels including A* in Mathematics and A in Physics |
Bath's general rules for A levels, from its UK qualification guidance, apply to international applicants too. Our typical offers require three A levels, and If you study more than three subjects, we accept your best three grades. The page adds that We do not use UCAS tariff points in offers, so your offer always names exact grades.
Two details catch international applicants. First, We do not accept Extended Project Qualifications (EPQ) in place of an A level, though they can appear in alternative offers. Second, timing: We generally expect you to achieve relevant qualifications within three years of your intended start point. If you finished school earlier, ask Bath before applying.
For Computer Science the contextual offer is AAA or A*AB in three A levels including A in Mathematics. Bath bases offers on results, not on component marks: We generally make offers for UK qualifications based on awarded grades only.
Official pages: Bath UK qualification guidance, Computer Science BSc course page, Economics BSc course page, Psychology BSc course page, Mechanical Engineering MEng course page.
AP and US high school entry requirements at Bath
Applicants with Advanced Placement tests are asked for 5, 5, 5 in three AP tests on all four course pages, with named subjects for the maths-heavy courses.
| Course | Typical AP offer |
|---|---|
| Computer Science | 5, 5, 5 in three Advanced Placement Tests including Calculus BC |
| Economics | 5, 5, 5 in three Advanced Placement Tests including Calculus AB or Calculus BC |
| Psychology | 5, 5, 5 in three Advanced Placement Tests |
| Mechanical Engineering | 5, 5, 5 in three Advanced Placement Tests including Calculus BC and Physics 1 |
The general page for American applicants says Our typical offers based on APs vary from 5, 4, 4 to 5, 5, 5, 5 depending on the course. It also tells applicants what else counts: When assessing your application we will also look for evidence of a high academic standard across the wider school curriculum or additional test scores.
Not every AP counts. On the Psychology page Bath writes We accept no more than one Calculus AP as one of these three subjects, and Mechanical Engineering excludes Calculus AB, AP Seminar and AP Research are not accepted as one of the three. Mechanical Engineering also offers a second route, 5, 5, 5 in three Advanced Placement Tests including Calculus BC and two from Physics 2, Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism and Physics C: Mechanics.
For a student without a full AP set, Bath says it We may be able to consider your application if you demonstrate a high level of academic achievement through Honors, Dual Enrolment or equivalent classes, case by case, and that We also accept International Baccalaureate qualifications and Associate Degrees.

Bath entry requirements for French applicants: Baccalauréat and BFI
For Computer Science, Bath asks French applicants for 17 overall with 15 in Mathematics as a speciality subject in the final year in the Baccalauréat Général, while the general page says offers vary from 13 to 17 overall depending on the course.
The wider range on Bath's international page, Our typical offers vary from 13 to 17 overall, covers all courses. The Computer Science page sets the top of that range and adds an alternative: 16 overall with 16, 15 in two speciality subjects in the final year including Mathematics.
For the French International Baccalaureate the numbers are slightly lower: 16 overall with 15 in Mathematics as a speciality subject in the final year for a BFI or OIB awarded before 2024. Bath defines the term clearly: By speciality subjects, we mean the subjects studied as 'enseignements de spécialités' in the General Baccalaureate, and the grade used is the written examination grade from the final year.
For French readers, the practical consequence is that the Baccalauréat is judged on two levels, the overall mark and the final-year speciality marks, so a strong overall mark does not cover a weak speciality grade. If you are weighing it against A levels or the IB Diploma, Bath says it We accept these qualifications whether you have studied them in the UK or abroad.
Bath adds that it previous academic achievements may be less relevant if you are studying a broader baccalaureate when deciding, which is why the French Baccalauréat is read mainly through the final-year marks. Check the course page of your own course, because each department sets its own numbers.

Bath entry requirements for Italy, Poland and Romania
For Computer Science Bath names a national requirement for each of three certificates: An overall score of 98% in the classical, languages or scientific pathway with 10, 10, 9 for the Italian Esame di Stato, 90, 90, 85 in three extended subjects including Mathematics for the Polish Matura, and 9.0 overall with 9.5, 9.5, 9.0 in three subjects including Mathematics for the Romanian Bacalaureat.
| Country | Certificate | Computer Science offer |
|---|---|---|
| Italy | Diploma di Esame di Stato | An overall score of 98% in the classical, languages or scientific pathway with 10, 10, 9 in three subjects from your final report card including Mathematics |
| Poland | Certificate of Maturity | 90, 90, 85 in three extended subjects including Mathematics |
| Romania | Diplomă de Bacalaureat | 9.0 overall with 9.5, 9.5, 9.0 in three subjects including Mathematics |
| European Baccalaureate | European Baccalaureate | 88% overall with 8.5 in Mathematics (5 periods) |
These figures are for Computer Science, one of Bath's most selective courses. Bath describes it plainly: Our Computer Science courses are extremely popular and places are limited. Other courses use lower numbers, so a Polish applicant for Economics should open the Economics page and read the Polish line there rather than assume the Computer Science figures.
Polish readers will notice that the requirement is on the extended-level subjects, not on the basic level, and includes Mathematics. Italian readers will notice that Bath reads the final report card, not only the overall Esame di Stato mark. Romanian readers are asked for three named subject marks, again including Mathematics, on top of the overall average.
All three certificates are described as one option among several. Bath also says it We accept these qualifications whether you have studied them in the UK or abroad for A levels and the IB Diploma, and for the European Baccalaureate the line is 88% overall with 8.5 in Mathematics (5 periods).
Official pages: Computer Science BSc course page, Economics BSc course page.
Bath entry requirements for Spain, Greece, Türkiye, Hungary and others
Bath gives separate figures for Spain (vary from 8 to 9.2 overall), Greece (We accept the Apolytirion when it is studied alongside A levels), Türkiye (CGPA of 85% with 85% in Calculus or Mathematics from the final year for Computer Science) and Hungary (5 in all subjects with 85% in two Higher subjects including Mathematics).
Spain: the international page lists the Bachillerato route with offers that vary from 8 to 9.2 overall depending on the course, and says some degrees need specific subject grades. For Greece, the Apolytirion is accepted together with A levels rather than alone; the general page says 18.5 to 19.5 with two A levels, and the Psychology page names a different pairing of the Apolytirion with A levels.
Türkiye: the Turkish High School Diploma and its private, science and Anatolian variants are considered for direct entry, with The CGPA range is from 85% through to 75%, depending on the course. On the Computer Science page the line is CGPA of 85% with 85% in Calculus or Mathematics from the final year, which means the maths mark is tested on its own as well as inside the average.
Hungary: for the Érettségi the Computer Science page reads 5 in all subjects with 85% in two Higher subjects including Mathematics. Portugal: Bath writes that Unfortunately we are unable to accept students onto this course on the basis of this qualification alone, and Portuguese applicants need additional recognised study in Mathematics.
If your certificate is not named anywhere on the pages, the safe move is the one Bath itself recommends: apply with A levels, IB or a foundation year, or write to the admissions team. Bath says it if your country isn’t included on this page, you can still apply.
Official pages: Bath entry requirements for international students, Computer Science BSc course page, Psychology BSc course page.
Maths and subject requirements at Bath: GCSE, A level and IB subjects
Maths is the common gate: Computer Science and Economics ask for A in Mathematics at A level, Mechanical Engineering for A* in Mathematics and A in Physics, and Psychology for GCSE Mathematics grade 7 or A.
Bath explains the general rule on its qualification guidance page: Many of our courses also require a specific grade in GCSE Mathematics and some a science GCSE. If you did not study GCSEs, Bath adds that you will generally be expected to meet any maths or science requirements in your entry qualifications. Readers with an IB Diploma or an A level Mathematics normally meet them that way, since You do not usually need to meet our maths or science GCSE requirements if you studied a relevant subject at a higher level.
Psychology and the GCSE Mathematics line
Psychology is unusual in asking for GCSE Mathematics grade 7 or A, and Bath underlines it: Our GCSE Mathematics requirement for this course is very important and most applicants who do not meet it are unsuccessful. Applicants outside the GCSE system should ask Bath how their national maths grade is read.
Maths by route
- IB: To be considered for this course you will usually need to study either Mathematics course at Higher Level for Computer Science, and for Mechanical Engineering 36 points overall and 7, 7, 6 in three Higher Level subjects including 6 in Physics and 7 in either HL Mathematics.
- A levels: Economics asks for AAB in three A levels including A in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering names Physics too.
- Hong Kong DSE: Computer Science asks for 5,5 in core Mathematics and either extended Mathematics paper plus two electives or one elective and English.
- Britain's Numeracy GCSE does not count: We do not accept GCSE Mathematics - Numeracy to meet the GCSE Mathematics requirement.
Official pages: Bath UK qualification guidance, Psychology BSc course page, Computer Science BSc course page, Economics BSc course page, Mechanical Engineering MEng course page.
English language requirements at Bath: Categories A, B and C and accepted tests
Bath sorts every course into English language Category A, B or C: Psychology is Category A, Economics is Category B, and Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering are Category C, and the IELTS Academic figure for Category C is 6.5 with 6.0 in each component.
The rule is stated on the qualification guidance page: We require a recognised English language qualification for all our courses. Each course page states its GCSE English grade and its category: Psychology asks for GCSE English Language or Literature grade 6 or B (or equivalent from English language category A), Economics for GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 or C (or equivalent from English language category B), and Computer Science for GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 or C (or equivalent from English language category C).
| Test | Category A (Psychology) | Category B (Economics) | Category C (Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering) |
|---|---|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 7.0 with 6.5 in each component | 7.0 with 6.5 in each component | 6.5 with 6.0 in each component |
| TOEFL iBT, before the 2026 scale change | 100 overall with 24 in each component | 100 overall with 24 in each component | 90 overall with 21 in each component |
| TOEFL iBT, taken after the 2026 scale change | 5 overall with a minimum 4.5 in all components | 5 overall with a minimum 4.5 in all components | 4.5 overall with a minimum 4.0 in all components |
| PTE Academic | 69 with no less than 62 in each component | 69 with no less than 62 in each component | 62 with no less than 59 in each component |
Test results age out. For Category B, Bath states If you use one of the following tests to meet our English language requirement, you must have achieved your qualification no more than 24 months before starting your course. Only one test is needed: you only need to take one of the tests listed. The PTE Academic online version is not valid: We do not accept the PTE Academic online test.
The new TOEFL iBT scale is listed separately for results taken after the 2026 scale change, so check which version your score report shows before comparing it with the old totals. The visa rules are the reason for the strict approach: As well as meeting our course entry requirements, you have to provide proof of your level of English to meet the Home Office standard for a Student visa.
If your English is below the line, Bath points to a summer course: If you need to improve your English before coming to University, you may be able to book a pre-sessional English language course before the first semester.
Official pages: Category A English requirements, Category B English requirements, Category C English requirements, Bath guide to applying for an undergraduate course, Bath UK qualification guidance.
English without a test: school qualifications and exemptions
A test is not always needed, because Bath accepts many school English results: for Category B, Standard or Higher Level in English (any) Grade 3 in the IB, and German Abitur English Grade 12 for the German Abitur.
The list of other accepted qualifications is long and sorted by country. Bath writes that We accept the following qualifications if you have achieved them no more than 40 months before the start of the course, and that it can accept older ones at its discretion. For Category B examples include the IB, the Abitur and the French General Baccalaureate, where General Baccalaureate English Language A Grade 14.
The European Baccalaureate is on the list as well: European Baccalaureate English L1: 7.0 L2: 8.0 L3: 8.5. The Category A and C pages have their own lists, so match the list to the category of the course you want rather than to the lowest category.
Not all exemptions are open to everyone. Bath writes that We only accept some qualifications if you are a national of an English-speaking country, which applies for example to Canadian and Australian school diplomas. Check that your passport matches the condition before relying on it.
A last practical point: English proof belongs in the application early. The visa needs it: you have to provide proof of your level of English.
Official pages: Category A English requirements, Category B English requirements, Category C English requirements.
Bath interviews and tests for international undergraduate applicants
Most Bath applicants are not interviewed: We interview all applicants for our Social Work and Pharmacy courses, and other courses invite candidates when we will invite you to attend an interview if you are studying a qualification that is harder for us to assess on paper.
For the Computer Science course the page says what the process normally looks like: We will usually assess you based on your UCAS application, with interviews for certain qualifications such as the Access to HE Diploma or the T Level. The same is stated on Bath's application page: For some of our courses, we will invite you to attend an interview.
What an interview looks like
Format and timing are published: Interviews take place virtually via Microsoft Teams, and The majority of interviews will be held from late February to early April. Management and Business courses usually use a group interview (courses typically hold a group interview). You hear the outcome quickly: We understand that you will want to know the outcome of our interview as soon as possible and therefore we will aim to notify you within two weeks of the interview date.
The selection described for Computer Science rests on the application itself: We will not usually consider alternative or supplementary personal statements for this course. Prepare the UCAS personal statement carefully, since it is the one statement the department reads.
Official pages: Bath undergraduate applicant interviews page, Bath guide to applying for an undergraduate course, Computer Science BSc course page.
How competitive Bath is: selection beyond the grades
Bath tells Computer Science applicants plainly that Our Computer Science courses are extremely popular and places are limited, so the grades in the offer are the minimum to be considered, not a promise of a place.
The Computer Science page continues with the consequence: admissions are highly selective and Bath cannot guarantee an offer even to applicants who meet or exceed the typical entry requirements. Bath states no acceptance rate in its admissions pages, so treat any rate you see elsewhere as unofficial.
Besides predicted grades, Bath looks at the school record. The page says that Your wider GCSE profile is also a significant factor for Computer Science, and the qualification guidance explains the mechanism: Your overall GCSE profile will normally form part of our selection process. Many courses use an average calculated from the best eight GCSE grades (Many of our courses consider an average GCSE grade as part of selection). Applicants who did not take GCSEs are not penalised, and Bath looks at the national school record instead.
The Economics page links to a separate selection page for its degrees. Read it before sending the form, because it explains which parts of the profile carry weight.

Bath tuition fees for overseas students: what is published for 2027 entry
For autumn 2027 Bath has not published the overseas tuition fee on the Computer Science course page: Fee information is not yet available for this course, and the page adds that tuition fees are liable to increase annually for all University of Bath students.
Bath decides your fee status itself: Your tuition fees and how you pay them will depend on whether you are a Home or Overseas student. For most readers of this guide the status will be overseas, but the scholarship rules say that the status is confirmed with the offer, and sometimes later (the scholarship chapter).
Because the 2027 figure is not published, do not budget from an older year without saying so. Treat any number from a previous course page as an estimate and re-check the course page before you accept an offer.
Costs beyond tuition
The course pages add a small practical line: You will need to budget at least £100 for photocopying, printing and binding, plus the cost of textbooks. Courses with placements or study abroad carry extra travel, accommodation and living costs that you pay yourself.
Funding for overseas students comes mainly from the scholarship in the next chapter, and from sources outside Bath. UK tuition fee loans are described on the course page, but they are for students with the right to them, so check your eligibility before counting on a loan.
Official pages: Computer Science BSc course page, Bath International Excellence Scholarship page.
Bath International Excellence Scholarship for 2027 entry: £8,000 a year
Bath offers up to 300 International Excellence Scholarships worth £8,000 per academic year (up to £24,000 over three years) to overseas fee-paying first-year students who join in September 2027.
To apply you must be a new first year applicant assessed as an overseas fee paying student and have an offer for any undergraduate degree at the University of Bath starting in September 2027. If you win, If you are awarded a scholarship, then in order to receive it you must choose the University of Bath as your firm choice in your UCAS replies.
Two rules matter. First, the discount applies to full-time years of study: The scholarship offers an £8,000 discount on your tuition-fees for each full-time year of study, up to a maximum of three years (£24,000). This means that: if your course includes a placement or study abroad year you will not receive a discount on tuition fees for that year. For example, for a four-year BSc course including a placement in year 3, you will normally receive the discount for years 1, 2 and 4, and a placement or study-abroad year gets no discount. Second, an unsuccessful application cannot be reopened: Applications will only be considered once.
If your fee status is not on the offer letter, wait: If your fee status has not been confirmed with your offer, you cannot apply until Bath confirms it, so ask the admissions team early if the deadline is close.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Computer Science | A*A*A | 36 points overall and 7, 7, 6 | 5, 5, 5 | C |
| Economics | AAB | 36 points overall and 7, 6, 6 | 5, 5, 5 | B |
| Psychology | A*AA | 36 points overall and 7, 6, 6 | 5, 5, 5 | A |
| Mechanical Engineering | A*A*A | 36 points overall and 7, 7, 6 | 5, 5, 5 | C |
Computer Science is a three-year BSc: 3 years, starting in September 2027, and Bath adds Welcome week starts on 20 September 2027. The tables above hold the entry grades; the course pages hold the units.
The English category follows the course, not the applicant. Psychology asks for the highest English standard of the four, and its GCSE English line reads GCSE English Language or Literature grade 6 or B. Mechanical Engineering follows GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 or C (or equivalent from English language category C).
If your chosen programme is not one of these four, use the same method: open the course page for 2027 entry, find your country in the list of qualifications, and read the English category.
