UQ programmes international applicants most apply to
This guide follows four undergraduate programmes: the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at 4 years, the Bachelor of Commerce at 3 years, the Bachelor of Computer Science at 3 years and the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) at 4 years, each full-time or part-time equivalent.
Engineering, Commerce and Computer Science start in Semester 1 on 22 February 2027 or Semester 2 on 26 July 2027. Laws (Honours) has a Semester 1 start only, on 22 February 2027.
Medicine at UQ is a graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine, so it sits outside this undergraduate guide.
- Engineering (Honours): General English, Mathematical Methods and Chemistry or Physics are the prerequisites.
- Commerce: Mathematical Methods and General English are the prerequisites.
- Computer Science: Mathematical Methods and General English are the prerequisites.
- Laws (Honours): General English is the only listed prerequisite.
How to apply to UQ from abroad
If your senior schooling is from outside Australia, you submit an application directly to UQ, either yourself or through an agent, and applicants from certain countries must apply through an agent.
The online system tells you whether your country is one that requires an agent. For applicants completing senior schooling from Australia, UQ says: You need to apply online through QTAC for all undergraduate programs.
UQ suggests applying early: it can consider applications up to 2 years in advance, and some programmes have limited places.
- Prepare certified copies of complete academic transcripts and/or testamurs for any non-UQ studies.
- Keep your English evidence ready, as chapter 10 explains.
- Leave time for the offer and for the student visa.
UQ deadlines and intakes for 2027 entry
For direct applicants, Semester 1 applications close on 30 November of the previous year, and Semester 2 applications close on 31 May of the same year.
UQ states that some programmes have different closing dates, listed on the programme page, and that it may consider late applications, but this cannot be guaranteed. UQ makes offers between 1 October 2026 and 16 February 2027 for Semester 1, 2027.
UQ entry requirements: subject prerequisites and entry scores
To get an offer you need the subject prerequisites, the entry score threshold and, where relevant, program-specific requirements; for subject prerequisites, you need to achieve a grade of C or higher in Units 3 and 4.
You can meet the prerequisites with other qualifications too: UQ says you can also meet the prerequisites if you have passed equivalent subjects through high school (interstate or overseas), and chapters 7 to 9 list the equivalents for the IB, A-levels and several national certificates.
Once you meet the prerequisites, places are allocated in order of applicants' entry scores until the program is full. Each programme lists 2 equivalent entry score thresholds: ATAR/selection rank and IB score.
If you do not hold an ATAR, UQ converts your qualification into a QTAC selection rank, and selection ranks range from 30.00 to 99.95. UQ publishes information sheets for converting the IB, New Zealand NCEA, HKDSE, South African NSC, UK GCE and USA high school results.
UQ entry score thresholds by programme
The lowest adjusted scores UQ made an offer to in Semester 1, 2026 (the latest published) were ATAR 84 or IB 32 for Engineering (Honours), ATAR 82 or IB 31 for Commerce, ATAR 84 or IB 32 for Computer Science and ATAR 97.5 or IB 41.25 for Laws (Honours).
| Programme | ATAR / rank | IB |
|---|---|---|
| Engineering (Honours) | 84 | 32 |
| Commerce | 82 | 31 |
| Computer Science | 84 | 32 |
| Laws (Honours) | 97.5 | 41.25 |
These are thresholds, not the level of a typical admitted student, and UQ adds that they are the lowest adjusted scores it made an offer to in Semester 1, 2026. For recent secondary students offered a place in Engineering (Honours), the median was 92.1 without adjustments and 94.1 with adjustments and the lowest was 79.45 without and 84 with adjustments.
In Laws (Honours) the median was 97.7 without adjustments and 99.8 with adjustments, and the lowest was 93.95 without and 97.6 with adjustments.
UQ requirements for IB Diploma applicants
For the subject prerequisites, UQ counts an IB subject as passed when HL subjects reach 3 and SL subjects reach 4, and the entry score is an IB total of 32 for Engineering (Honours) and Computer Science, 31 for Commerce and 41.25 for Laws (Honours) (Semester 1, 2026 offers).
The English prerequisite is met by English B, English A: Literature or English A: Language and Literature (HL/SL). Mathematical Methods lists Mathematics Analysis and Approaches (SL or HL) among the IB equivalents.
For the science prerequisite in Engineering (Honours), UQ lists Physics (HL or SL) for Physics and Chemistry (HL or SL) for Chemistry.
UQ also publishes an IB information sheet that explains how IB results become a selection rank.
UQ requirements for A-level applicants
For UK GCE subjects UQ's table reads A Level = D, O Level and AS Level = C for the prerequisite grades.
English is met by English Language or English Literature (A or AS Level). Mathematical Methods lists Mathematics (A or AS Level) as the equivalent.
For Engineering (Honours), Physics (A or AS Level) or Chemistry (A or AS Level) meets the science prerequisite.
The entry score for A-level applicants is a selection rank converted with UQ's UK GCE information sheet, listed among the information sheets on the entry requirements page.
UQ requirements for other national certificates and AP
UQ's prerequisite table covers many national certificates; for the French Baccalaureate it uses a minimum pass of 10/20 points and for the German Abitur a minimum pass of 4.
For a USA High School Diploma, Advanced Placement (AP) subjects need a minimum grade of 3, and Calculus (AP) at any level counts for Mathematical Methods. General Mathematics can be met with an SAT-1 score of 530/800 in the Math section.
If your certificate is not in the table, UQ asks you to contact it: if you have completed other types of secondary education studies, it gives advice on the selection rank.
UQ English language requirements
Most programmes need overall IELTS 6.5 and 6.0 in all sub-bands or an equivalent, while Laws (Honours) asks for IELTS 7 overall.
| Programme | IELTS | TOEFL iBT | PTE Academic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engineering (Honours) | 6.5 overall, 6 each | 87 overall | 64 overall, 60 each |
| Commerce | 6.5 overall, 6 each | 87 overall | 64 overall, 60 each |
| Computer Science | 6.5 overall, 6 each | 87 overall | 64 overall, 60 each |
| Laws (Honours) | 7 overall | 100 overall | 72 overall |
TOEFL sub-scores for the 87 overall level are 19 in listening, 19 in reading, 21 in writing and 19 in speaking. Laws (Honours) asks for 7 in writing and speaking and 6 in reading and listening in IELTS.
You can combine results: IELTS One Skill Retake can be used together with the original IELTS Academic results for all programmes. The Engineering (Honours) page also lists CES overall 176 and 169 in all sub-bands and states that OET is not accepted. Check the programme page to see which requirement applies to you.
Ways to meet UQ English requirements without a test
UQ accepts evidence other than a test: senior secondary schooling from a designated country where the medium of instruction is English meets the requirement.
- A completed bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited institution recognised by UQ.
- At least 1 year of full-time post-secondary study in a designated country at a recognised institution.
- At least 2 years of full-time post-secondary study, with the final year in the 5 years before you start.
- Work experience in an English-speaking professional environment in a designated country for at least 3 years immediately before the start.
If you meet the academic requirements but need English help, you may be eligible for a package offer that combines an English course at UQ College with a conditional offer.
Admission tests and interviews at UQ
The programme pages for Engineering (Honours), Commerce, Computer Science and Laws (Honours) list subject prerequisites, an entry score and English scores, and mention no admission test or interview, as of October 2026.
Selection works by rank: places are allocated in order of applicants' entry scores until the program is full. Your result in the school qualification therefore carries the weight a separate test carries elsewhere.
UQ tuition fees for international students
The programme pages list A$60952 for Engineering (Honours) and Computer Science, and A$56800 for Commerce and Laws (Honours), according to the pages as of October 2026.
| Programme | Listed fee | Duration |
|---|---|---|

| Commerce | A$56800 | 3 years |
| Computer Science | A$60952 | 3 years |
| Laws (Honours) | A$56800 | 4 years |
The pages do not say whether the figure covers a year or the whole programme, so confirm it on the programme page before budgeting. UQ also states that fees are reviewed each year and may increase.
Student visa for UQ international students
International students accepted into full-time study in the programmes in this guide are eligible to apply for an Australian student visa (subclass 500).
The same statement appears on the pages for Commerce, Computer Science and Laws (Honours). UQ adds that several requirements must be met before a visa is granted, including the Genuine Student (GS) requirement.
Leave time between the offer and the start of the semester for the visa application.
