University of Western Australia for international applicants at a glance
UWA takes international undergraduates through a direct online application, and offers rest on ATAR equivalents: an IB Diploma score of 24 or higher is the university-wide floor, while Commerce and Engineering (Honours) list ATAR 80 / IB 27. The application fee is $150, and 2027 tuition for the main degrees here runs from AUD 53,000 to AUD 56,200 a year.
- Apply: direct through the UWA Application Portal or through an agent.
- English: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 at the minimum standard.
- Intakes: February and July for the combined Engineering (Honours) and Commerce degree.
- Medicine and Law are postgraduate at UWA, reached through assured pathways or directly: see the Medicine and Law chapter.
University of Western Australia rankings and reputation
UWA describes itself as a world top 100 university (QS 2027).
The main campus is on Stirling Highway in Nedlands, Perth, the capital of Western Australia. UWA belongs to the Group of Eight, the research-intensive Australian universities, and says that a pass in the English paper of a foundation program from another Group of Eight university can meet its English requirement.
How to apply to UWA as an international student
International applicants apply direct online through the UWA Application Portal or through an agent, and every application carries a non-refundable fee of $150.
Prepare your documents first: a copy of your academic results, your English test results, your passport and anything extra the course asks for.
You make your own arrangements for travel and the student visa: UWA states that you are required to make your own travel and student visa arrangements.
Every application is also considered for a scholarship: you will be automatically considered for a Global Excellence Scholarship.
UWA application dates and intakes for 2027
UWA lets you apply up to two years before your intended start date, and some courses have earlier closing dates, so check the closing date on your course page before you plan.
For the combined Engineering (Honours) and Commerce degree the course page lists intakes in February and July.
Because Perth sits in the southern hemisphere, a February start means the Australian academic year begins in the first half of the calendar year. Plan the English test and school results around the date your course page gives.
UWA entry requirements by school qualification
UWA converts school results to an ATAR equivalent. The university-wide floor for the IB Diploma is a score of 24, and Australian secondary applicants need an ATAR of 75 or above.

| French Baccalauréat | Applications welcomed |
| Abitur | Applications welcomed |

Applicants who miss a course prerequisite can use a broad first degree: the Bachelor of Arts, Biomedical Science, Business, Commerce, Environmental Design or Science can be used to satisfy prerequisites before transferring.
UWA requirements for the IB Diploma
IB graduates must complete the full Diploma and score 24 or higher; UWA converts the total to an ATAR equivalent.
Commerce and Engineering (Honours) list ATAR 80 / IB 27, which matches an IB total of 27. Bachelor of Science lists ATAR 70 / IB 24.

Mathematics Methods ATAR is matched by Analysis and Approaches SL with a grade of 4 or above; Mathematics Specialist ATAR by Analysis and Approaches HL with a grade of 3 or above.

English proof: minimum grade E in English Language, English Literature or English Language and Literature, endorsed by a UK authority.
UWA requirements for the French Baccalauréat
UWA welcomes French Baccalauréat graduates and reads the Baccalauréat average against its ATAR scale, where the pass mark is 10.

Published conversions include Abitur 3.6 for ATAR 70, 2.6 for ATAR 90 and 2.2 for ATAR 94. A test such as IELTS is the alternative route in the English tests chapter.

- Indonesian SMA 3: equivalents assume a passing grade of 75.
- AP English: grade 3 or higher in AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition.
